Every life leaves an echo in the lives it has known.

Barbara Jean Schroeder, age 88, of Claymont, DE, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born on September 18, 1937, in Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Brezza) Roberts.

Barbara spent years working as a waitress, where her personality and presence left a lasting impression on the people she met. She had a natural gift for making people feel welcome, whether they were longtime customers or strangers passing through.

Outside of work, Barbara found peace in the simple things. She enjoyed sitting outside, feeling the breeze, feeding the birds and squirrels. She loved attending craft shows, creating crafts of her own, spending time antiquing, and listening to country music. Barbara will be remembered most for her witty sense of humor and her loving, nurturing spirit. She was the glue that held her family together-a steady presence who brought comfort to those around her and was home to many.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sons, Ricky and John Schroeder; brother, Paul Roberts; grandson, Justin Allen; and son-in-law, Ralph Allen. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Showell and Jennifer Schroeder; grandchildren, Jordan Schroeder (Holly), Jenna Schroeder (Andrew), John Schroeder, Jacinta Allen (Michael), Jacin Allen (Brooke), Janae Showell, Jade Schroeder, Jewel Schroeder, Jacarri Schroeder, and Joel Cephas; and many great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 1 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 1 pm. Inurnment will be held privately.

In the quiet moments-in the breeze, in the sound of the birds, in the feeling of being cared for-her presence will still be there.
