Betty Lou Thompson of Loretto, KY has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.

Betty Lou Thompson, 91, of Loretto, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Green Meadows Rehab in Mount Washington. Born December 10, 1934, in Loretto, she was a dedicated employee of Maker’s Mark Distillery, where she worked for 27 years. Betty Lou was a loving mother and grandmother, an avid quilter and card player, and a faithful member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edwin Thompson who died August 18, 1968; her parents, Walter and Katie Miles; one sister, Linda Medley; five brothers, J.W., Bobby, Frankie, Elmer and Louie Miles.Survivors include six children, Gail Clements (Rick) of Mount Washington, Johnny Thompson (Sheila) of Taylorsville, David Thompson (Linda) of Mount Washington, Donald Thompson (Cindy) of Springfield, Christy Hall (Sean) of Lexington, and Lou Ann Clark (Mark) of Lawrenceburg; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa Hamilton (Leon) of Loretto and Mary Catherine Lamkin (Billy) of Taylorsville.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday, May 8, 2026, at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto. Rev. Richard T. Goodin will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.The visitation is 4-8 pm Thursday and 8 am – 9:30 am Friday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service 7 pm Thursday by Rev. Deacon Joseph R. Dant.Memorials may go to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital.Pallbearers are Brad Clements, Jeremy Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Michael Thompson, Jacob Hall, and Ryan Clark.
