Beulah "Merle" Machemer

Beulah "Merle" Machemer of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Dexter, age 94, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Silver Maples. She was born February 3, 1932, in Melvindale, Michigan, the daughter of Kindred and Carra (Edwards) Deel.

Merle graduated from Melvindale High School in 1950, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University, and a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Michigan. She worked as a children's librarian for 10 years. Merle was extremely enthusiastic about health and nutrition. She loved reading, gardening, and especially her family.

Merle married Donald Machemer on February 9, 1951. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Vemuri of Rochester Hills; sons, Steve (Theresa) Machemer of Denver, Colorado, Kevin (Kristen) Machemer of Denver, Colorado, and Brian (Robin) Machemer of Dexter; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David Machemer; brother, Kindred Deel; sister, Shirley Grove; and son-in-law, Radha Vemuri.

No services will be held at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Science in the Public Interest.
