Carole Jane Stevens of Sweetwater, TX, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.

Behind every name is a life, and behind every life are the people who loved it.

Carole spent her working life as ['Big Spring State Hospital after finishing school'] and held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

The community of faith holds its own well — and Carole was held.

Carole Jane Stevens, 72, of Sweetwater TX passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2026, Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene, after a short illness. Carole was born on May 18, 1953, in Sweetwater Texas to Dwane and Jane Stevens. Carole was raised in Sweetwater TX and graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1971. She attended school at Texas A&M University and UCLA Santa Barbara eventually getting her BS at Texas Tech University. She also served six years in the United States Navy. Carole loved to fish. She was also an avid sports fan. She loved her dogs and cats. She traveled some with her sisters to attend dog shows. She also had a great affinity for small children and had the nickname "Mean Aunt". She worked for Big Spring State Hospital after finishing school. She was a caretaker for her grandmother, Lois Pence. She worked for Adult Protective Services for 26 years as a social worker .Carol is survived by her mother Jane Pence Stevens; two sisters, Brenda Kay Stevens and Elaine Smola (husband James); three brothers, Randal Stevens (wife Joanna), Blake Stevens (wife Tracey) and David Stevens (wife Kimberly); as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her father Dwane Stevens. Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Friday, May 7, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 507 Crane Street with Father Josh Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery with military graveside honors performed by the United States Naval Honor Guard. A Prayer Vigil will be at 6:30 PM and a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening recited by Deacon David Mendez at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Pallbearers will be Randal Stevens, Blake Stevens, David Stevens, James Smola, Kevin Stevens, Travis Stevens, Randy Stevens, Chris Wyatt. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mccoyfh.com.
