Cynthia Anne "Cindy" Page of Urbandale, IA, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.
The chapters of her life were many; these are some of them.
Cynthia spent her working life as ['Administrative Assistant with Continental Western Life'] and held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
What is held in faith is rarely lost.
Cynthia "Cindy" Anne Page, age 83, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, at Kavanagh Hospice House, surrounded by love and kindness.
Cindy was born on July 5, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Jesse and Wilma Hissem. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1960, where she excelled both academically and musically. Cindy was crowned Valentine's Day Queen and participated in synchronized swimming, chorus, and band. A gifted musician, she achieved All State Band honors all four years of high school.
In 1963, Cindy married Gary Page and was blessed with two daughters, Lori and Julie. Later in life, she found deep love and companionship with her soulmate and partner of 26 years, Mary Bartusek.
Cindy was a hardworking and dedicated provider who took great pride in supporting her family. Her career began with United Airlines in Chicago, followed by work with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She later served as a home daycare provider and paraprofessional at Olmstead Elementary School. Cindy also enjoyed a highly successful professional career as an Administrative Assistant with Continental Western Life, G.W. Jaques Company, and Pioneer Hi Bred International, where she worked for 24 years. She was respected as a dependable, collaborative team player in every position she held.
Family was at the heart of Cindy's life. She was faithfully in the crowd or on the sidelines for nearly every game and activity of her daughters and grandchildren-always their number one fan, ready with a cheer, encouragement, and a hug. Cindy actively supported Urbandale girls athletics for many years, serving as a basketball and softball chaperone and team mom. She ensured the girls had what they needed to play and was often a quiet source of compassion-offering a listening ear, comfort, and reassurance when it mattered most.
Cindy's faith was central to her life. She was a member of Lutheran Church of Hope, where she proudly played the flute in the orchestra and participated in a weekly Bible study with cherished friends. Cindy also enjoyed spending time at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church with Mary, where she felt welcomed and embraced by the congregation.
Cindy will be remembered for her kindness, gentle and loving spirit, and unwavering support of those she cared about. She had a lifelong love of music and was a talented flutist. She also enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, and lovingly making blankets for her family. Cindy dearly loved and missed her two Wheaten Terriers, Bailey and Ziggy.
Cindy is survived by her devoted partner, Mary Bartusek; her daughters, Lori Waddell (Shannon) and Julie Page; three grandchildren, Brittanie Messiah (Euseph), Kelly Waddell (Jordyn), and Samantha Lane (Kyle); and six great grandchildren, Harper, Charlotte, Xavier, Raylan, Elouise, and Gus. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Wilma Hissem and her granddaughter Brenna Waddell.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 10, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will take place Monday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in West Des Moines, Iowa. A private family internment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Food Bank of Iowa or Kavanagh Hospice House, in appreciation of the care and compassion Cindy received.
