In Loving Memory of David Joe Kallus
David Joe Kallus, 74, a lifelong cornerstone of Brazoria County, passed away leaving behind a legacy as sturdy as the trucks he drove. Born and raised right here in the county, David didn't just live in the community-he helped pull it out of the ditches.
For years, David was the face of Brazoria Towing. As a longtime small business owner, he was the definition of "hard-working," though most folks knew him as the guy who was always there to help before they even had to ask. David never met a stranger; he only met friends he hadn't shared a joke with yet. If you spent five minutes with him, you were likely leaving with a smile and a story you'd be telling for a week.
The true North Star of David's life was his wife, Linda (Garvin) Kallus. Together, they navigated 54 years of marriage-a feat that surely required plenty of love, PATIENCE, and David's trademark sense of humor.
David's greatest pride was the family he built. He is survived by his devoted sons, David Joe Kallus Jr. (Myona) and John Garvin Kallus (Deanna). He was a legendary grandfather to: Zane Kallus (Jenna) Tori Fundora (Daniel), Josef Ansorge (Katherine), Evan "Friend" Kallus (Lela), Steven Matthews (Brittany), Raelynn Gomez (Jake), Kaleigh Pinkney (Tarian), Cassidi Johnican (Dylan), Mason Hutchins (Mya), Makenzie Hancock (Karter), Carlee Kallus (Corey).
His legacy continues to grow through his numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom will undoubtedly grow up hearing stories of their grandpa's crazy shortcuts and shenanigans. He also leaves behind much loved family members Beverly Hasty, Jimmy Garvin (Denise), and Amanda Keyes (Bobby), along with numerous friends who felt like family.
David loved nothing more than a house full of people, a good laugh, and the company of those he held dear. He was happiest on the water, where he really enjoyed pulling all of what he lovingly called his 'jackass' kids and 'jackass grandkids' in the tube behind the boat-trying his best to see just how fast he could get them to fly. While the roads in Brazoria might feel a little quieter without him, his spirit remains in every helping hand offered and every loud, joyful laugh shared among family.
