Gertrude Mary "Gert" Shore of Forestville, NY, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.

Below, the simplest tribute: the truth of a life as it was lived.

It is the small moments that often matter most.

Dunkirk: Gertrude "Gert" Mary (Kuczmarski) Shore, 94, of Dunkirk, formerly of Fredonia, died Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Chautauqua Nursing & Rehab in Dunkirk. She was born in Buffalo on May 24, 1931, the daughter of the late Daniel and Sophie (Tyll) Kuczmarski. Gert was a graduate of Mt. Mary Academy in Buffalo and received her Associates Degree in Business from Bryant & Stratton College.

One of Gert's great joys in life was quilting and crafting. She was a quilting teacher where she taught multiple generations the art of quilting; including her daughter, granddaughter, daughter-in-law, nieces and many in the community through classes held at Mauzy's Sewing Center in Fredonia. Gertrude enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling and visiting family & friends.

Survivors include her daughter Linda (John) Burton, a daughter-in-law Lynda Shore, three grandchildren; Sara (Jamie) Couchman, David Shore, and Linnea (Neil) Saft, two great grandchildren; Charlotte Couchman & Maren Saft, seven nieces; Deborah, Mary, Susan, Patricia, Julie, Sharon & Lisa and two nephews; David & Brian. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Donald Grant Shore, whom she married on May 26, 1951 in St. Teresa Church in Buffalo and who died on August 29, 1986, her son Daniel Shore who died in 2019 and her sister Sylvia (Kuczmarski) Stephan.

Private graveside services and interment were held in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga. Arrangements are by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville. To post condolences or memories go to https://rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com.
