Harold Dean Looney of Herndon, KY has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved him.

Harold held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Faith is a quiet companion through a long life. Harold's walked beside him.

Harold Dean Looney, 72, of Herndon, KY passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Flat Lick Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Crawford and William Randolph officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2026, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Pikeville, KY he was born February 15, 1954, the son of the late James Edgar Looney and Ruby Wright Looney. He retired after 40 years from Hopkinsville Milling Company and 20 years with the Kentucky National Guard. He was a member of Lafayette Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin grandchildren: Avery Grace and Jacob Hunter Looney, and three brothers-in-law: Alan Bartlett, David Black, and Eddie Poe, Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years: Peggy Looney; his sons: James Dean (Bobbie) Looney and Joshua Neal (Michelle) Looney both of Herndon, KY; his daughter: Kristy Michelle (Pat) Stoneham; two grandchildren: Rylee Grace Looney and Kameron Riley Stoneham; his brother: Charles (Linda) Looney of Herndon, KY; his sisters: Linda Bartlett of Doylestown, PA, Betty Black of Danville, WV, and Ina Poe of Hopkinsville, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
