A parent leaves not only memory, but the people they helped become.
Arnold Gene Elftman, 77, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2026, at his home.
His story begins on February 12, 1949, where he was born to Arnold Aaron and Jessie Mae (Wilmingham) Elftman in Chetek, WI. From early on, Arnold was a man who loved the open road and the outdoors - two passions that would define his life for the next seven decades.
Arnold spent over 50 years behind the wheel as a trucker, logging an extraordinary 10 million miles over the course of his career. Driving wasn't just a job for Arnold, it was a way of life. He took great pride in his work, and the road was a place where he was truly at home.
Arnold was devoted to his wife, Mary Glenda (Hill) Elftman, who preceded him in death on February 23, 1997. He carried her with him every mile of every road he traveled after she was gone.
When he wasn't on the road, Arnold could often be found hunting or settled in with a good western, whether that was a book or one of his favorite western films.
Arnold is survived by his children, Joseph Elftman of Scottsburg, IN, Nichole Lynn Elftman-Dewane of Cape Coral, FL, and Stacy Elftman of Scottsburg, IN; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Raymond Davidson of Rochester, MN, Keith Elftman of Park City, KS, David (Debra) Elftman of Oconomowoc, WI, James Elftman of Waukesha, WI, Steven Elftman of Waukesha, WI, and Floyd (Mindy) Elftman of Cudahy, WI.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Glenda (Hill) Elftman; his parents, Arnold Aaron and Jessie Mae (Wilmingham) Elftman; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Davidson and Brenda Elftman.
The family has entrusted cremation services to Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Henryville, Indiana.
