Billy will be deeply missed by all who loved them.

"Say not in grief, 'they are no more,' but live in thankfulness that they were."

The family of Billy Joe Hayes of Taylor, MI announces his passing, and invites all who knew him to remember him here.

Here is what we wish the world to know of Billy.

It is in the silence afterward that we hear how loud a life was.

Billy Joe Hayes, known to many as BeeJay, passed away on May 1, 2026, in Dearborn after a sudden and unexpected battle with cancer. He was born on April 12, 1949, and lived a life marked by kindness, humor, and a warm spirit that touched everyone who knew him.

BeeJay was the beloved son of the late Bill and Murble Hayes. He was also a devoted husband to Clara Hayes, with whom he shared nearly 30 years of marriage. Their life together was built on love, companionship, and mutual devotion, and Clara remained a cherished part of his life throughout the years. He was also a loving brother to the late James Hayes, Ellen Hayes, Susie Peterson and her husband Pete, and Richard Hayes. His family meant a great deal to him, and he valued the bonds they shared throughout his life.

BeeJay attended school through high school and went on to complete some college. He believed in working hard and doing his part, and he carried that attitude into his career. For many years, he served as an Environmental Inspector for the City of Detroit, where he was respected for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. He took pride in his work and in contributing to the community through the many years he spent in public service.

Those who knew BeeJay will remember him as a funny, loving, and friendly man who had a gift for making others feel comfortable. He was a good man to everyone and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He had a great white long beard that became one of his most recognizable features, and children often mistook him for Santa Claus. He always enjoyed that comparison and took great delight in the smiles it brought. His sense of humor and easygoing nature made him a joy to be around, and his presence could brighten any room.

BeeJay also enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together, a pastime that reflected both his curiosity and his patience. He liked understanding how things worked and found satisfaction in fixing what others might have considered beyond repair. That same thoughtful and practical nature was evident in the way he lived his life. He approached people with kindness, treated others with respect, and left a lasting impression through his gentle and generous spirit.

He will be remembered with love by his wife, his siblings, extended family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Billy Joe Hayes lived a life defined by laughter, loyalty, and love. His memory will remain a blessing to those who carry him in their hearts, and his legacy of warmth and kindness will not be forgotten.

No formal services will be held at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Taylor Chapel of Voran Funeral Home, 23750 Goddard Road. (313) 291-1800. Please share memories and/or leave condolences on BeeJay's guestbook on his tribute wall.
