Parenthood is the slow work of love. Christine did it well.
Christine (Brownfield) Fowler, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at Rolling Hills Health and Rehab in Wichita, Kansas. Born on January 16, 1934, in Plaska, Texas, Christine’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and family dedication.Growing up moving around the Midwest, Christine developed a spirited and playful nature. Known as an ornery trickster and master of practical jokes, she delighted in making those around her laugh, bringing joy and light-heartedness wherever she went.As an adult, Christine embraced her role as a full-time homemaker, dedicating herself to the care and upbringing of her children. Once her children were grown, she was able to shower affection on her beloved grandchildren, a joy she embraced fully and happily. Her nurturing spirit and affectionate nature left a lasting impact on generations of her family.Christine's interests reflected her gentle and creative soul. She found peace in reading her Bible, knitting, tending to her tulip garden, and indulging her love of collecting dolls and miniature toys. These hobbies were a reflection of her patient and tender character, and they enriched her life with beauty and calm. Family members fondly remember her smoked meatballs, hearty potato soup, and meatloaf—meals that were remembered long after they were shared.She leaves behind eight children: Allen White, Lucretia Ott, William (Terrey) White, Johnny White, Jimmy (Paula) White, David White, Tracy (Mindy) White, and Tommy (Christina) White. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly.Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Minnie (Hill) Brownfield; her husband, Vernon Fowler; and her siblings Dale, Pauline, Kathryn, Irene, Mamie, Gene, and one infant sister.A graveside service to celebrate Christine’s life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas. Friends and family are invited to gather, remember, and honor the woman who brought so much laughter into the lives she touched.Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and may be left in the care of Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, Kansas.
