The family of Edwin E. "Ed" Hawk of Smithville, OH announces his passing, and invites all who knew him to remember him here.
Here is what mattered, in the years between the dates.
Edwin spent his working life as ['Shriner Sole Company in Killbuck', 'driver-salesman for the Coca-Cola Co'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
The years gathered, as years do, into a life.
Edwin E. "Ed" Hawk, age 89, of Smithville, Ohio, entered into rest on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Ohio's Hospice Life Care in Wooster, surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born on August 22, 1936, to Elmer and Irene (Temple) Hawk in Killbuck, Ohio. While in high school, he worked for Shriner Sole Company in Killbuck. Following graduation, he served in the Ohio Army National Guard for five years until his discharge on October 31, 1962.
He later worked as a driver-salesman for the Coca-Cola Co. in Wooster and concluded his career for many years as a driver-salesman for Nickles Bakery, also in Wooster. Ed was instrumental in starting the Wayne County RC Flying Club and taught many people how to fly radio-controlled airplanes over the years. He also enjoyed buying and reconditioning vintage pinball machines.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jane (Gerig) Hawk; sons, Eric (Judy) Hawk of Massillon, Mark Hawk of Orrville, and Paul Hawk of Smithville; grandsons, Andrew Hawk of Orrville and Lukus (Hayley) Hawk of Rittman; and great-grandsons, Archer and Rowen Hawk.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Park.
A graveside service with military honors will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026, 11:00 am at Smithville Cemetery, with Pastor Kirk Fairhurst officiating. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster is assisting the family.
