The family of Gregory "Greg" Lew Fernett of Fayetteville, WV announces his passing, and invites all who knew him to remember him here.

Gregory Lew Fernett, 63, of Fayetteville passed away suddenly Saturday, May 2nd.Greg was a lifelong resident of Fayette County, where he was currently serving as County Commissioner. He was widely known, well loved, and intensely proud of the people in his (vast) circle of friends and associates, volunteering much of his time to participate in various athletic programs as coach, umpire, referee, and mentor. In addition, he was a staunch supporter of the local volunteer Fire Departments and worked tirelessly to bring about positive change in Fayette County. Greg worked for 35 years in the coal industry, serving on various mine safety teams.He was preceded in death by his parents James Harold Fernett and Helena Fernett, and nephew John Fernett of Fayetteville. He leaves behind his partner, Marita Judy, his son, Joel Gregory Fernett (Randi) and daughter Laura Fernett of Fayetteville, as well as siblings Keith Fernett (Bonnie), Donna Mize (Charlie), James Fernett (Debbie), and Tim Fernett (Terry). He was also the proud grandfather of Cole, Morgan, Ethan, Ryan, Regan, and Kohlson, and uncle to Brian, Chris, Jamie, Jeffrey, Jonathan, and Melissa.Visitation will be held at the Glen Jean Armory 409 Wood Mountain Road Glen Jean WV, 25846 on Saturday, May 9th, 2026. Family only from 10:00 AM -11:00 AM, Public welcome from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, services at 4:00 PM . The burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
