The family of Jeffrey Thomas Altfillisch of Benton, WI announces his passing, and invites all who knew him to remember him here.
What you read below is one part of a life lived with quiet purpose.
A parent leaves not only memory, but the people they helped become.
Jeffrey Thomas Altfillisch, beloved former mayor of Benton, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 4, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him fiercely and a lifetime of laughter that will now live on without him. His passing came after a short but courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Jeff believed in hard work, showing up for family, and always making light of any situation. He had the gift of sarcasm and a knack for fixing anything. He took great pride in his yard-and wasn't shy about pointing out a perfectly straight mowing line. He enjoyed hiking with his wife, golfing a quick 9, and a cold Bud Light or Mega Buddy (the only acceptable size) of Diet Mountain Dew on a hot day. In his younger years (and probably some that followed), he had a fondness for gambling and staying out too late with his friends.
Jeff was born on June 25, 1959, in Hazel Green, WI to Ben and Jean Altfillisch. He graduated from Benton High School in 1977 and went on to work for 40 years in the grain industry. His reign of ruling Benton as "mayor" was from 1985-1987. He accomplished his life dream of having a son on May 24, 2000. He married the love of his life Correna on September 2, 2017.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his children-never missing a sporting event and always being there when it mattered most. He also leaves behind a legacy of car rides dominated by his sports-talk radio, which he refused to turn off for anyone but his wife.
He was preceded in death by both his parents Ben and Jean Altfillisch and sister-in-law Shirley Altfillisch. He is survived by his wife, Correna. His children Britney (Corey) O'Connell, Alex Altfillisch, Emily (Peter) Grasee, and Isaiah Altfillisch. His stepchildren Nicole (Caleb) Ubersox, Ben Riley, and Connor (Josie) Riley. His grandchildren Ava, Lily, Kolten, Josie, Case, Addy, Ryker, Renny, Cora, Elliot, and Caleb. His favorite sister Mary Jo (John) Freeborg, and two brothers Mike Alfillisch and Jim Altfillisch along with multiple nieces and nephews. As well as his favorite dogs Copper, Koda, and Wade.
Family has planned private events to honor his life. In true Jeff fashion, if you don't know the details, you aren't invited.
