Behind the medals and ribbons was a person — and that person mattered most.

Lloyd "George" Burgess Jr., 72, of Canton, passed away on May 2, 2026 peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Richwood, WV to the late Lloyd and Elsie (Mowery) Burgess on December 16, 1953.

George proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, carrying that sense of strength and dedication with him throughout his life. He was known for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone. He was a car enthusiast and known for giving away cars to help others. He enjoyed playing bingo, spending time at McDonald's drinking coffee while making new friends, and most of all playing the guitar and singing songs that reflected his love for the Lord.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Crystal Burgess and her son Rushon Patterson II; his daughter Kerri (Duane) Bucher and their children Logan and Paisley Bucher; his sisters Patricia Wilfong, Judie (Richard) Dalton, Carol Ramsey; his brother Ronald (Rebecca) Burgess; and his special friend Cindy Stargen.

He was preceded in death by his brother Larry Burgess and sisters Nancy McGlothin and Mary Ramsey.

George will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his faith, his music, and the love he shared with those around him.

Friends may call on the family at Schneeberger-Oser Funeral Home, 2222 Fulton Road Northwest, Canton, Ohio 44709, on Thursday, May 7, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A live stream will be available.

A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Military honors and burial will take place at West Lawn Cemetery, 1919 7th Street Northwest, Canton, Ohio 44708, on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 12:45 p.m.
