Time has its way of binding people together.

Marissa Aiyana Canell, age 27, of Mathews, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with a brain tumor on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Though her time here was far too short, she lived with a spirit that was bold, creative, and entirely her own.Marissa was a vibrant soul who found joy in art and self-expression. She loved being creative, whether through making something beautiful or finding unique ways to bring her imagination to life. She had a deep love for animals and a natural gift for caring for them.She was incredibly smart, quick-witted, and strong-willed. Marissa lived unapologetically, always doing what she wanted without fear of judgment or hesitation. She dreamed big and believed deeply in chasing what sets your soul on fire. She not only held big dreams for herself, but constantly encouraged those around her to pursue theirs as well. She had a way of inspiring others to live boldly, take chances, and trust in their own path.Her fiery soul, fearless authenticity, and carefree spirit made her unforgettable.For the past almost two years, Marissa was lovingly cared for by her devoted mother, Michele, whose compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication carried her through this difficult journey. Their bond was one of deep love and steadfast devotion.Marissa will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her vibrant spirit, sharp humor, and fearless way of living will remain in the hearts of those she touched.We will forever miss her carefree spirit, her fiery soul, and the way she reminded all of us to dream bigger and live without fear.Marissa is survived by her loving parents, Michele and Mike Canell, sisters, Gabrielle Gross (Kody), Niccole Tillage (Cody), Airian Diaz (Tony), and her loving nephews and nieces, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her Grandmother and Grandfather Alice and Fred McLaughlin.A private celebration of Marissa’s life will be held with family at a later date.In honor of Marissa, dream boldly, create freely, and live unapologetically, just as she did. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, is assisting the family.
