Melva D. Smith, 73, passed away on May 2, 2026, in Milam, Texas. Born on December 15, 1952, in Roseville, California to T. C. Nix and Maudie Hess, Melva spent her early years in Eureka, California before moving to Milam 18 years ago. Melva dedicated her professional life to her role as a housekeeper.
She leaves behind her husband, Isom Smith of Milam; her daughter, Shawna Smith and her husband, Clay, of The Woodlands; and her sister, Phyllis Miller and her husband, Jim, of Tennessee. Melva was preceded in death by her father, T. C. Nix; her mother, Maudie Hess Nix; her daughter, Erica Smith; her brother, Ronnie Nix. and her granddaughter Ilah Smith.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Starr Funeral Home. Melva's life will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her.
