The family of Mr. Gerald Leon "Pops" Tanner of Commerce, GA announces his passing, and invites all who knew him to remember him here.

Mr. spent his working life as ['Dupont'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
Parenthood is the slow work of love. Mr. did it well.
Mr. Gerald Leon "Pops" Tanner, age 69 of Commerce passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026 at his residence. Mr. Tanner was born in Commerce to the late, Joseph and Mary Ellen Bonds Tanner. Mr. Tanner was a maintenance worker at the City of Commerce Civic Center and worked at Dupont. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tanner was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Ann Tanner. Mr. Tanner will be remembered most for his deep love for his family, fishing, hunting, dancing, singing, poems, and crafts.
Mr. Tanner is survived by his children, Jeremy Tanner (Katie), Sara Cheek (Reid), Jennifer Dorsey (Chris), and Dylan Andrews (Jessica); brother, Kenneth Tanner (Joyce); sisters, Lynda Culpepper (Jerry), Becky Minish (Bobby) and Sandra Minish; grandchildren, Jordan Tanner (Emma), Savannah Webb (Chase), Nathan Dorsey (Michaela), Jodie Tanner, Bryson Cheek (Cassidy), Taylor Cheek, Taylen Dorsey, TJ Dorsey, Benjamin and Leo Andrews.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 9th at 2 PM from the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with Rev. Kelby Maxwell, Rev. Doug Conwell, and Rev. Tracy Davidson officiating with the interment following at Maxwell Baird Family cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday night from 6-8 PM.
