Nancy Jones Kearns, 82, of Huntsville, Alabama, AL, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.

Born in 1943, Nancy began a life that would touch many along the way.
Nancy spent her working life as ['adjunct professor at Alabama A&M University'] and held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
The community of faith holds its own well — and Nancy was held.
With sadness, we share the passing of Nancy Jones Kearns of Huntsville, AL, formerly of New Market, AL; however, we rejoice knowing that she peacefully transitioned to her eternal home with the Lord on Thursday, April 30, 2026. She was 82 years of age and passed after an extended battle with cancer.Nancy was born on October 7, 1943, to W. T. and Lillian Erwin Jones. She grew up in New Market and graduated with the Class of 1962 from Buckhorn High School. She received a degree in Education from Athens State University and began her high school teaching career at Hartselle High School, later teaching at Decatur High School. She was an educator for 52 years, teaching English, Literature, and Spanish not only in Alabama but also in Florida. She traveled with groups of her students on educational tours to England, France, Spain, and Mexico, which broadened their knowledge and love for these countries that were so special to her. She taught at the University of Alabama in Huntsville before concluding her teaching career as an adjunct professor at Alabama A&M University. Nancy dedicated her life to teaching, loving, and guiding her many students as they prepared for life's challenges.Nancy trusted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a child and was a faithful member of New Market Baptist Church.Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, William Kearns; her parents, W. T. and Lillian Jones; and her brother, Tom Jones. She is survived by her son, Mike Kearns; her granddaughter, Cassandra Kearns; her sister, Dale (Richard) Peters; her nephew, David Peters; as well as several cousins and many friends.A memorial service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held at New Market Baptist Church, 5412 Winchester Road, New Market, on Saturday, May 9 at 2:00 PM, with Reverend Bobby Eads officiating and with Pastor Jeff Reeves and Mr. Carl Fears providing music.Memorial contributions in Mrs. Kearns memory may be made to New Market Baptist Church, PO Box 128, New Market, AL 35761.Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
