The family of Richard P. Wilkes of Monroeville, PA announces his passing, and invites all who knew him to remember him here.
Here is what we wish the world to know of Richard.
It is in the silence afterward that we hear how loud a life was.
Richard P. Wilkes
Age 88 of Monroeville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Born March 12, 1938 in Wilkinsburg, he was the loving son of Benjamin G. and Gwendolyn (Patterson) Wilkes. Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Nancy J. (Long) Wilkes; his brother, Ronald D. (the late Donna M.) Wilkes; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, B.G. Wilkes.
Dick was a proud 1956 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School, where he distinguished himself as a gifted athlete. He played both golf and basketball for the school, and his years there reflected the discipline, teamwork, and competitive spirit that would remain part of his character for the rest of his life. Following high school, Dick attended Duke University, where he continued to play basketball. Dick's faith was an important part of his life, and he served as a Deacon at Hebron Church in Penn Hills. In that role, he offered his time, his leadership, and his steady devotion to his church community.
The family would like to thank the staff at William Penn Care Center and Bridges Hospice for the exceptional and loving care that they provided Dick.
