Shirley held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
A life of faith is rarely a life of certainty — but always one of trust.
Shirley Ann King, age 84, of New Salisbury, Indiana, passed away on May 4, 2026.
She was born on August 25, 1941, in Keota, Oklahoma, to Major and Stella Kanada. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her family. In 1971, she married Joe King. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, especially watching IU Basketball with her son and grandson. In her younger days, she also loved playing tennis and various sports, such as swimming and bowling.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Joyce and June.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Joe King; her son, Sean (Janet) Miguel; brothers, Jim, Bill, and Michael; sister, Norma; grandchildren, Zach (Amy) Miguel and T.J. (Cassie) Miguel; and great-grandchildren, Sophie Miguel, Nathaniel Miguel, Elijah Miguel, and Sean Mark Miguel.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, and again from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Swarens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Swarens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hursttown Cemetery.
