Joann Williams of Fayetteville, TN, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.
These are the contours of a life that meant a great deal to many.
Joann held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
The community of faith holds its own well — and Joann was held.
Joann Carpenter Williams, age 78, of Fayetteville, TN, passed away on April 24, 2026, at HH Lincoln Health. Born on May 4, 1947, in Etowah County, AL, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Hooper and Ruth Keener Hooper. A dedicated member of the McBurg First Baptist Church, Joann was well-known in the community for her years of service as a school bus driver for Lincoln County Schools. In her personal time, she found great peace and joy tending to her flower gardens.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at McBurg First Baptist Church with Bro. Timmy Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Wright's Cemetery. The family will receive friends and visitors at the church on Sunday from 11:00 AM until the hour of service.
Joann is survived by her husband, James Williams; her son, Dwayne (Tammy) Carpenter; and step-sons, Daron (Darlene) Williams and Chris (Sandra) Williams; granddaughter, Nici (Clint) Gill; step-grandchildren, Brittany (Devon) Schmidt and Sidney Williams; great-grandchildren, Callie Gill and Kelsie Gill; and siblings, Dorothy (Stanley) Flynt and Danny (Kay) Hooper, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her first husband, Randal Carpenter, and her siblings, Lamar Hooper and Barbara Seymour.
