John Keller of East Grand Forks, MN, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Behind every name is a life, and behind every life are the people who loved it.

John held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

There is a discipline of duty that shapes a life long after the uniform is set aside.

John R. Keller, 98 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2026 at Valley 4000 Woodside Manor where he had been a resident for over a decade.

John was born October 30, 1927 to George and Gunda (Dahl). John was a life-long resident of East Grand Forks until physical illness required leaving their home near Sherlock Park. He served in the army in communications during post-war Germany. He worked at the Crystal Sugar plant for a couple of years before spending most of his work life as a clerk for the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad.

John married the love of his life, Charlotte DeGagne, on May 5, 1951. They had three children, Robert, Catherine and Nancy Jo; Nancy Jo died at birth. John loved music-singing and dancing. He met his bride at a dance at the States Theater and continued dancing throughout his 60s and 70s, until he broke his leg. Another mark of his life is his Catholic faith. Sharing this with Charlotte, notably in their daily rosary, it schooled him in gentleness and service of others.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Nancy Jo; his parents; and his brothers, Richard, William, and Jerry. He is survived by his children, Robert Keller and Catherine (Robert) Pelz.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL is 11:00am on Thursday, May 28th, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 3rd Street NW, East Grand Forks, MN, with VISITATION one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. INTERMENT with Military Honors at Resurrection Cemetery in East Grand Forks immediately following the Funeral Mass.
