Jose Hernandez, Jr., age 80, of Morton, Texas, died Saturday, May 2, 2026 in Morton. He was born December 10, 1945 in Barstow, Texas to Jose and Sustina (Tarango) Hernandez Sr. He married Alma Rosa Alvarado in San Antonio del Bravo, Chihuahua, Mexico on December 24, 1964.
Jose loved to fish; loved to cook fish; and he loved to eat fish. He was a great cook, and made amazing chile as well. He made sure that he fed everyone who came to the house. Jose also enjoyed doing the household chores and gardening. He like to play the guitar. He was known as "Tata", and loved his grands and great-grands. Jose was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Morton. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ismael Hernandez and Martin Hernandez; and a brother-in-law, Ben Madrid.
Jose is survived by his wife, Alma Rosa; his two sons, Javier Hernandez and his wife, Sylvia of Morton, Texas and Raul Jose "R.J." Hernandez of Morton, Texas; his three daughters, Anna Hernandez of Morton, Texas, Laura Charlton and Rick of San Angelo, Texas and Julisa Hernandez of Morton, Texas; a sister, Alicia Madrid of Fabens, Texas; a brother, Jesus, "Chuy" Hernandez and his wife, Ofelia of Andrews, Texas; and his fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
