June Marie Carney of Del City, OK has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.
A life remembered begins, simply, with the telling.
June held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
Belief, when lived, becomes a kind of inheritance.
On May 4, 2026, a beautiful sun shiny morning, June Marie Carney, age 89, of Oklahoma City, 0K passed away peacefully in her own home. Born June 2, 1936 in Roswell, NM to Wallace E. McDaniel and Buena Velma Callister. She was a 1954 graduate of Midwest City HS and soon after graduation married Roy Carney on October 16, 1954.
June was a faithful follower of Christ while raising 5 kids in church. That loyalty led to her husband Roy's salvation who soon after became a pastor. She was a pastor's wife for 27 years all the while embracing the wonderful role of mother, homemaker, seamstress, and gardener. She was well known for her amazing quilts and wedding dresses. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and watching athletic events. She attended countless baseball, football, and basketball games of her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roy, mother Buena Velma, father Wallace, son Danny, son Tinker, daughter in law Cathie, grandson Joshua, and sister Francis.
She is survived by son Derrick Carney and wife Karen of Luther, son Dewey Carney and wife Susan of Harrah, daughter Deena Price and husband Jay of Oklahoma City, grandchildren Shannon, Adrianne, Kristie, Krista, Darren Jr., Ashlee, Derrick Jr, Jordan, Bryan, Caleb, Jared, and Charissa, sisters Margaret and Bernice as well as 19 great grandchildren.
Services will be rendered by Barnes Friederich & Pope Funeral Home, 1820 S Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73130. Visitation for June will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 8:00am – 8:00pm, with family receiving friends from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Draper Lake Baptist Church, 5501 S Post Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73150.
