Larry Junior Petree of Coos Bay, OR, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.
What remains is memory — and the gratitude of those he loved.
Larry spent his working life as ['custodian for the school district'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
What we carry forward is the light others gave us.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held for Larry Junior Petree, 77, of Coos Bay, on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 1:00pm at Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary, 405 Elrod Ave, Coos Bay, Oregon. Inurnment will be at Roseburg National Cemetery Annex in Roseburg, Oregon
Larry was born December 5, 1948 in Kingsburg, California, the son of Claude Lee and Edna Clara Ann (Shepherd) Petree. He was the youngest of six and was raised and educated in Kingsburg graduating from Kingsburg Joint Union High School in 1967. He was married to Cynthia June "Cindy" Gaston on June 20, 1968 in Kingman, Arizona.
In 1969 Larry was drafted into the U.S. Army and fought in the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged he returned to Kingsburg for several years before moving his family to Santa Rosa where he worked as a custodian for the school district. They later moved to Fresno where he worked as a custodian for the Fresno Unified School District for 18 years. In 1997 the moved to Coos Bay where he worked for Carson – Davis Oil retiring as the area manager of their gas stations.
Larry enjoyed watching WWF wrestling, both live and on TV. He also raced cars and fished when he was younger and enjoyed watching Kung Fu movies and wrestling on TV. He could talk for hours about bigfoot and he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cindy Petree of Coos Bay, son, Jason Petree of Coos Bay, four granddaughters, Lena, Zowie, Kristal and Kaitlyn and four great grandchildren with another one on the way. He is also survived by his sisters, JoAnn Martin of Hanna, Oklahoma and Dennie Underwood of Coursegold, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Johnny, Mary, and Jimmy Doyle Petree.
