Lawrence Lynn Guyer Jr. of Guttenberg, IA, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Behind every name is a life, and behind every life are the people who loved it.

Grief is love with nowhere left to go.

Lawrence Lynn Guyer, 69, passed away on April 29, 2026, at his home in Guttenberg, IA, surrounded by family after a long battle with chronic illnesses.

Lawrence was born on September 19, 1956, to Lawrence and Verda Mae (Kregel) Guyer. He grew up on the family farm near Garnavillo. Growing up he enjoyed his family trips camping and fishing. He was a proud member of the Garnavillo 'Rowdy Crowd' cheering on the sports teams.

He graduated from Garnavillo High school in 1975. Shortly after he started working at various factories, later working for the Kregel's on their hog farm. He had his own lawn care service mowing cemeteries and lawns. In his spare time he enjoyed playing softball, going to tournaments, fishing, hunting, bowling and going to stock car races.

Lawrence married Lesa Wiskus on June 25, 1995. One daughter, Shawna, was born to this union. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He became disabled but it didn't stop him from doing the things he loved. He enjoyed going to family gatherings when he could and playing cards. He also enjoyed coloring, feeding his birds and talking to family and friends on the phone. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.

Lawrence had a long road battling with chronic illnesses. November 2024 he was admitted to hospice. The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice for the care and support they showed him during his time with them.

He is survived by his wife Lesa and daughter Shawna, sisters Lorna (Bob) Schwartz and Eunice Sluiter, sisters in law Lynn Guyer and Sue Guyer and brother in law Joel Portman, father in law Lavern (Doris) Wiskus, sister in law Colleen (Wes) Hansel, brothers in law Lee (Jean) Wiskus and Steve (Cathy) Wiskus and many nieces, nephews and other family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, sister Janet Portman, brothers Wayne and Roger Guyer, brother in law Randy Sluiter, niece Anne Schwartz, nephew Michael Hansel and mother in law Faye Wiskus.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Colesburg Community Church. A private family burial will be held at Bethel Cemetery, Colesburg, IA.

Iowa Cremation is honored to serve the family of Lawrence Lynn Guyer, Jr.
