Lowell William Thaxton of Burley, ID, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Lowell held deeply to the Latter-day Saints faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Some carry the weight of duty quietly; Lowell carried it well.

BURLEY – Lowell William Thaxton, an 82-year-old resident of Burley, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026, at Cassia Regional Hospital in Burley. Lowell was born February 10, 1944, to Leonard Clyde and Bessie Charlotte (Hacking) Thaxton. He attended school in the Minidoka School District and graduated from Minico High School in 1962. He married Karol Ann Osterhout on April 14, 1967, in Burley. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple Lowell served in the United States Army National Guard for many years. He was very family-oriented and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Lowell had many hidden talents including singing, baking, his crazy hand clap, bowling, and playing church ball - where he was the only ambidextrous player on the team. He also had a love of cars. He was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed being a spectator in all their activities. He was proud of his title of Great-Grandfather and would regularly mention the numbers as they continued to grow. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many church callings. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Huber (Richard-deceased) and Elaine Zahnizer (Ron); his son, Tracey Lowell Thaxton (Lynnete) of Rupert; his daughter, Karnel Thaxton Brashear (Dan) of Burley; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and best friend, Harold Grenier. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carolyn Peterson; a great-grandson, Brayzen Reno; and Karol Grenier. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn. Military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group. Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Lowell William Thaxton.
