Marilyn Jean Dennler of Ankeny, IA, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.

These few paragraphs cannot hold a life, but they may carry a memory.

Marilyn spent her working life as ['Postmaster in Alleman'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Quiet kindness echoes longest.

Marilyn Jean Dennler, 94, passed away on May 3, 2026, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny). A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., also at Memorial Services of Iowa. Interment will take place at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Marilyn was born on November 19, 1931, in Ankeny to Charles and Anna Campbell. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1949. On May 27, 1951, she was united in marriage to Gerald "Jack" Dennler. They farmed around the Alleman area where they raised their family. Marilyn was a devoted member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman.

Marilyn worked as a Postmaster in Alleman, and after her retirement, they moved to Ankeny. She spent many winter months in Mesa, AZ. She also enjoyed spending Christmas in Texas with Sherry and her family. Her favorite pastime was playing bridge and watching Iowa State sports.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Bill) Elbert; grandchildren, Jeff (Deanna) Elbert, and Jaclyn (John Michael) Stewart; great grandchildren, Ayla, Jackson, Anniston, Eleanor and Camden; as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack in 2005; son, Jerry; brother, Charles; sisters, Mildred; Bonnie and Majorie Ann.

Memorials may be directed to Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman or Ankeny Historical Society.
