Mary Lou Ulmer of Uniontown, PA has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.
What follows is written with love, by those who knew her best.
Mary held deeply to the Presbyterian faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
Belief, when lived, becomes a kind of inheritance.
Mary Lou (Williams) Ulmer, 92, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 21, 2026, just a month shy of her 93 rd birthday. Mary Lou was born May 23, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Williams. She was a resident of Uniontown in the 1970's and 80's, and moved here again in 2023. She also resided in Michigan, North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida in her lifetime.
Mary Lou was an avid reader, with an extensive and varied collection of books. She loved reading the Bible, and was active in several women's Bible study classes. From the age of 55 and on, she was fiercely independent, and loving to travel, she took several cruises. One cruise went "around the world", visiting parts of Europe, Australia, the Philippines, Easter Island and Hawaii. Poetry, music, playing Scrabble and watching golf were favorite past-times for Mary Lou as well.
Mary Lou is survived by her four children, Claire A. Standish (Rick) of Uniontown; James A. Ulmer, III (Becky) of Tampa, FL; William R. Ulmer (Ellen) of Uniontown; and David R. Ulmer (Leann) of Columbus, OH; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; nephews, Fred C. Lemr, III (Judi) and James Manley (Terri).
Mary Lou was pre-deceased by her father Clarence Williams, her mother Ann (Chess) Pokorny, her brother Redford Williams, and sister Ruth Lemr; her former husband, James A. Ulmer, Jr., and a granddaughter, Molly Ulmer.
Mary Lou's family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staffs at The Addison of Uniontown and the Hospice team at the OSPTA, (Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy Associates, Inc.) who lovingly cared for her in her final days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, PA. Family and friends will be received at Trinity United Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 10 until 11 a.m. followed by a service celebrating Mary Lou's life at 11:00 AM with pastor James Vlosich officiating.
