Minnie Delphine "Del" Gilmer Boyd of Aiken, SC has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.

Here is what mattered, in the years between the dates.

Minnie held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Faith is a quiet companion through a long life. Minnie's walked beside her.

Minnie Delphine "Del" Gilmer Boyd, 82, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at her home in Aiken, South Carolina, with her loving son by her side. Born on June 27, 1943, in Griffin, Georgia, she was the cherished daughter of the late DeWitt and Ruby Shockley Gilmer.Del was a woman of deep faith and constant prayerfulness. A longtime member of the Millbrook Baptist Church, she formerly worked in the nursery and daycare. Her gentle spirit and nurturing nature left a lasting impact on those she cared for.Despite her saintly demeanor, those who knew Del fondly recall her unique expression of humor; her favorite and only swear words were simply "heck fire," a testament to her polite and respectful nature. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Benjamin Boyd; her parents, DeWitt and Ruby Shockley Gilmer; and her son, Michael Duane Boyd. Del is survived by her devoted son, David D. Boyd, and his wife Gloria of North Augusta, South Carolina; as well as two grandchildren, Timothy Martin Boyd and Jillian Boyd.A graveside service held Thursday morning, May 7th at 10 o'clock at Southlawn Cemetery with The Rev.
