Nelda Gay Peak of Madisonville, TN has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.

Nelda held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Nelda Gay Lynn Peak, age 78, of Madisonville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 9:18 P.M. Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Sweetwater Hospital. She was a native of Monroe County and longtime resident of Madisonville. Nelda was born in Tellico Plains to the late Roy E. & Thelma Shaw Lynn. Nelda was best known for her kind and gracious heart. If there was ever an opportunity to be a blessing or an encouragement to someone, she took it. After trusting in Christ as a young girl, she was a faithful member of Notchey Creek Baptist Church, where she served for many years with her husband, teaching GA's, numerous Vacation Bible Schools and Acteen's group. She also loved to quilt, garden and was known for bringing beauty into all she did.
Survivors, children, Ronnie (Amy) Peak, Rex Peak, Chris (Heather) Peak, Tabitha Aurora (Jake) Smith, all of Madisonville, Susan (Brad) Lane, Athens, To many she was a kind friend or an ever-helping hand, but her joy was found in being a Nanny to her 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, Siblings, Lucquita (Gennis) Best, Nickey (Madeline) Lynn, all of Tellico Plains, Revonda Hicks, Colorado, Several nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by husband, George A. Peak.
Funeral 7 P.M. Friday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. Gennis Best, Rev. Johnathan Lane & Rev. Shane Johnson officiating. Interment 10 A.M. Saturday, Notchey Creek Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-7 P.M. Friday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
