After a life of love and quiet grace, Audrey J. "Hickok" Ward of Lake Elmore, VT has passed.
The following words honor a life that mattered to many.
Audrey spent her working life as ['switch board operator at Trapp Family Lodge until she retired'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
Family is the thread that runs through every story.
Audrey J. (Hickok) Ward, 85, of Lake Elmore, VT passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2026 with her loving family by her side. Born in Georgia, VT. On August 9, 1940 to Verna H. Elwood and Lyman M. Hickok. Audrey attended Peoples Academy and then met the love of her life Frank Ward. They were married April 21, 1957 and had 5 children.
Audrey worked as a waitress until she joined the telephone company and became a telephone operator where she worked until they closed the Morrisville office. She then worked as a switch board operator at Trapp Family Lodge until she retired.
Audrey was everyone's friend and a mother to many. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, camping, snowmobiling, dancing, playing cards and having coffee with the girls.
Many will remember Audrey for her sense of humor, laughter and the fact she always had a joke to tell.
Audrey leaves behind her son's Michael Ward, Jeffrey Ward, Scott Ward and partner, Jeannine Santamore and daughter Tammy Ward. As well as her grandchildren, Stephen, Meghan, Dana, Heidi, Trapper, Travis and Desmond. As well as her great-grandchildren Emily, Joseph, Abi, Eisha, Hunter, Celia, Amara, Jaylin and olivia.
And a great-great-grandson Benjamin. She also leaves behind her brother Wallace Hickok and her two canine companions Tucker and Zoey. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Audrey was predeceased by her husband Frank Ward in 2017 and a son Randall Ward in 1965 and a daughter-in-law Marjorie (Goeltz) Ward in 2022 as well as her parents.
A celebration of Audreys life will be held at at the VFW in Hyde park, VT August 9, 2026 from 11 to 3. Bring a dish to share.
