It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Britton Thomas Johnson of Madison, GA — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

A life is more than dates on a stone; here is a small portion of his story.

Memory has a way of softening time.

Britton Thomas Johnson, 42, of Madison, passed away on May 4, 2026. Britt was born on October 14, 1983, in Atlanta to Samuel Thomas Johnson and Kathy Jo Hayes Johnson.

Britt married the love of his life, Shaner, on August 9, 2008. Together they built a life centered on faith, love, and family, and were blessed with their son, Tiller, whom Britt adored beyond measure.

Britt was a devoted and faithful servant of Christ who lived his life with the purpose of showing others the love of Jesus. After graduating from Eastside High School (Covington, GA) and Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville, GA), he served in ministry for many years. He began as an intern at Eastridge Community Church during his college years. Following college, he answered the call to serve at Lanier Christian Church in Gainesville, Mount Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain, and Cumberland Community Church in Smyrna. He also spent a season working with Cappstone Energy Group, where he built meaningful relationships and continued to positively impact those around him. Most recently, he was called to Covenant Park Church in Madison. Britt loved each church he served and faithfully poured into the lives of those around him. Through both his ministry and his everyday life, he touched countless lives and built lasting relationships rooted in faith.

Britt grew up in Covington and was known for his kind heart, steady presence, and unwavering loyalty as a friend. He had a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in hiking and experiencing God's creation. He also loved music and cherished time spent playing and sharing it with others.

A loyal fan, Britt passionately supported the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his teams.

Above all, Britt was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his strong faith, his servant's heart, and the genuine love he showed to everyone he encountered. While his loss is deeply felt, his legacy lives on in the many lives he impacted and the faith he so faithfully shared.

Britt is survived by his wife, Shaner Johnson, and their son, Tiller; his parents, Sam and Kathy Johnson; his sister, Lori Johnson; and many beloved friends and church family members.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 8, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at Covenant Park Church in Madison, with a memorial service to follow at 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Britt's memory to North Georgia Christian Camp, 531 Christian Camp Lane, Clarkesville, GA 30523, or online at http://www.christiancamp.net
