It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Frances Sather of Clifton, TX — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.
Here is a glimpse of the life she lived, in her family's own remembrance.
Frances spent her working life as ['car hop at the Dairy King in Clifton while in school', 'the Clifton Sunset Nursing Home then later at Hilltop Nursing Home in Meridian'] and held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
The traditions Frances loved will continue to hold those she loved.
Frances Betty (Prescher) Sather (83) entered into her eternal, heavenly home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by her children and family at her home on May 2, 2026, in Clifton, Texas.Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, May 6th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Clifton Funeral Home in Clifton, Texas. The service will be Thursday, May 7th at 2:00 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in the Norse community.Frances Betty Sather (83) was born on October 12, 1942 in Clifton, Texas to the late Erich and Florina Prescher of Clifton, Texas. She was baptized on November 29, 1942, confirmed in 1955, and grew up at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clifton. Frances attended and graduated from Clifton High School in 1960. She was quite the athlete and competed on the school basketball team while in school.Frances grew up on their family farm, and it was in those years that grit, determination, work ethic, faith, and the importance of family were instilled in her. There are stories of her driving the tractor to “The Ranch” and picking cotton in the Texas heat! She also worked as a car hop at the Dairy King in Clifton while in school.After High School Frances married Jerry Wayne Sather of Cranfills Gap on November 4, 1961 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were married 59 years. After marrying, they attended and were members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse. Together they raised three children, Dean, David, and Sheila.Early in her marriage she worked at Wall’s in Clifton. Later her determination pushed her to attend McLennan Community College. She was a dedicated professional in the healthcare system. Frances worked at Goodall Witcher Clinic for 50 years and built countless relationships. She loved people and seldom met a stranger. She treated everyone like family. She had an infectious laugh and witty sense of humor. She had the funniest sayings and many are repeated today by her family. Frances obtained her EMT certification and worked and responded to medical emergencies with the North Bosque EMS. In addition, Frances continued her natural caretaker role of nurse as she worked at the Clifton Sunset Nursing Home then later at Hilltop Nursing Home in Meridian. Her patients loved her and trusted her. She often sat with them and just listened.In addition, Frances was a talented, and amazing cook, baker, and cake decorator. The continuous sound of her mixers could be heard echoing throughout the house at all hours of the day and night as she created beautiful, intricate wedding cakes for all three of her children and her nieces and nephews as well. She also designed countless birthday cakes, anniversary cakes, shower cakes, seasonal cakes, baptismal cakes, and her well-known cross cake became a staple at church luncheons and special events, earning her the affectionate title of the “Cake Lady!”More than anything Frances treasured time with her family. She looked so forward to gatherings filled with laughter, storytelling, and the simple joy of being together, often centered around and enjoying great foods, cakes and homemade ice creams prepared by her and her siblings. She also loved to celebrate all the holidays with family from Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, July Fourth, and more. Frances cherished summer camping trips to Lake Whitney, spending days on the boat, skiing, swimming, and fishing.Frances enjoyed traveling with her family to the coast to Rockport and Port Aransas every summer to camp, fish and walk along the beach collecting shells together. Together, she would spend hours on a pier or on a deep-sea fishing boat to haul in tons of fish. Most were legal size!Frances loved the outdoors, and her numerous plants, vegetable gardens, and flowers. She enjoyed going to her and Jerry’s farms, raising and caring for her colorful peacocks, chickens and her beloved pet duck, Lucky. She worked cattle and had her unique system of tracking them. She often spoke to her animals and called them by name. Her deep connection to the outdoors and the animals she cared for was a meaningful and lasting part of her life.Her greatest joy of all was being with her own children and grandchildren. Frances and Jerry were unwavering pillars in their family’s lives, rarely missing a school function, a sporting event, or a 4-H livestock show. Their presence meant the world to their children and grandchildren, and Frances took immense pride in all of their accomplishments. Her memory will live on in the hearts of so many, as she exemplified a full life of love, hard work, and selfless service. The greatest gift she gave was her dedication to showing up, supporting others, and living boldly with loyalty, energy, and a deep love of the Lord.Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Erich and Florina Prescher, and her husband of 59 years, Jerry Wayne Sather.Her surviving family includes sister, Darlene Hall; sister, Carol Fields and brother-in-law, Clarence Fields, Jr.; brother, Wayne Prescher and sister-in-law, Sharon Prescher; son, Dean Sather and wife Lana; son, David Sather and wife Debbie; daughter, Sheila Bird and husband David; grandson, Jeremy Sather and wife Jessica; granddaughter, Amber Sather; grandson, Allan Sather and wife Jantzen; grandson, Steven Sather and wife Brittany; grandson, Blake Bird; granddaughter, Maddie Bird; great grandchildren, Waylon, Peyton, Jace, and Emma Sather; nephew, Keith Finstad and wife, Brenda; niece, Sherry Kelm and husband, Delbert; nephew, Kevin Finstad; niece, Dana Chastain and husband, Chris; niece, Denise Wise and husband, Jeff; nephew, Bryan Prescher and wife, Lisa; niece, Shonda Wagner and husband, Jay; nephew, Cody Prescher; nephew, Shane Prescher and wife, Marissa, and numerous cousins, family and close friends.The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Alamo Hospice, and her precious personal care givers that poured their loving support and hearts out to make her last days as comfortable as possible.Memorials may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse 152 CR 4145, Clifton, TX 76634.
