It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Gale Catherine Gregory of Marissa, IL — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

Gale spent her working life as ['the Sparta Lions Club and Frontier Steakhouse in Sparta'] and held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
Faith is the language some lives are written in. Gale's was one.

Gale Catherine Gregory, nee Shook, 83 of Marissa, IL, born February 26, 1943, in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Monday May 4, 2026, at the Mar-Ka Nursing Home in Mascoutah, IL. She was a devoted wife and mother who worked at the Sparta Lions Club and Frontier Steakhouse in Sparta, IL. She was also a member of Clarmin 1st Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents – Charles Vernon (Stella) Shook, her beloved husband – Bobby Edward Gregory, whom she married on November 11, 1960, in Clarmin, IL and who passed away on October 17, 2014, son – Damon Gregory, sister – Marjorie Wilkerson, brother Dale Shook and grandson Dalton Mcarty.
Gale is survived by her children – Bobby Eddie (Tina) Gregory of Clanton, AL, Randy (Becky) Gregory of Marissa, Christine (David) Boyster of Marissa, IL, Travis Gregory of Marissa, IL, Kristin (Jerry) Oliver of Granite City, IL, a brother – Aaron Shook of Marissa, IL, 23 grandchildren - Ethan, Chelsea, Lindsay, Brandy, Jordan, Tiffany, Peyton, Joshua, Nathan, Nicole, David, Dustin, Dillon, Levi, Brittney, Dakota, Logan, Tiffanie, Austin, Cody, Rayna, Trenton and Nick. She is also survived by 25 gr, grandchildren.
Memorials are encouraged to be made to Clarmin 1st Baptist Church.
Visitation: 9 – 11 a.m. on Friday May 8, 2026, at Carmin 1st Baptist Church in Clarmin, IL.
Funeral: 11 a.m. on Friday May 8, 2026, at Clarmin First Baptist Church in Clarmin, IL with Pastor Mike Higgerson officiating. Burial follow services at Marissa TWP Cemetery in Marissa, IL.
