It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Joe Rodriguez Jr. of Groves, TX — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

Here is what we wish the world to know of Joe.

Joe spent his working life as ['Texaco Operator'] and held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Faith is the language some lives are written in. Joe's was one.

Joe Rodriguez, Jr., a steadfast and dedicated resident of Groves, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on January 7, 1941, in Port Arthur, Joe was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

A proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Joe embarked upon a commendable career as a Texaco Operator, a position he held with distinction for 35 years.

Joe was known to many for particularly savoring the experience of trying new restaurants-a pastime that spoke to his adventurous spirit and appreciation for life's varied flavors.

An avid outdoorsman, Joe pursued hunting with great enthusiasm, delighting also in the camaraderie and skill found in bowling. Among his proudest accomplishments, he earned medals in archery, a testament to his dedication and precision.

Joe is survived by his lifelong partner and caregiver, Janice Bowman Perrell; son, Christopher Brandon Rodriguez, as well as several grandchildren. He also leaves behind siblings David Rodriguez, "Chili" Rodriguez, and Norma Jean "Cookie" Goodsell.

He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Joe Rodriguez, Sr. and Lelia Rodriguez, and by siblings Captain Johnny Ray "J-Rod" Rodriguez, Paul Rodriguez, and Lillie Schnick.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Melancon Levingston in Groves.

Melancon Levingston is honored to serve the family of Joe Rodriguez, Jr.
