It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of John H. Baratka of Channahon, IL — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

What follows is a brief look at the life his family wishes to share.

John held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Faith is the language some lives are written in. John's was one.

John H. Baratka, age 88, of Channahon, passed away on May 1, 2026. Loving husband of the late Carol M. Baratka. Dear father of John C. (Pam), Karen A. Vaughan, David (Colleen), and Daniel (Talley). Beloved grandfather of the late Amanda, Sarah Ann, Jack, Kelly, Frank, Dan, Marastella, Mikaela, Bailey, Anika, Jackson, Delaney, and Harrison. Fond great-grandfather of Caelob, Taetym, Amiya, Marlee, Avery, Maci, Jack, Amelia and Penelope. Preceded in death by his loving parents John and Anna Baratka and his siblings LaVerne Birdwell and Dorothy Loll. Visitation 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday May 15 at Hallowell & James, 301 75th St., Downers Grove. Visitation will continue 10 a.m. Saturday May 16 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 24500 S Navajo Dr., Channahon, until time of Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Ann Catholic Church would be appreciated. Funeral info 630-964-6500
