Joy Miller
March 13, 1931 - May 2, 2026
Joy Miller, a woman whose name perfectly captures the essence of her spirit, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on March 13, 1931, in the quiet beauty of Etowah, Tennessee, to Millie and Jesse Pickel, Joy lived a life defined by adventure, creativity, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her journey took her across many landscapes – from the communities of Akron, Ashland, and Tallmadge, Ohio, to the sun-drenched beauty of Naples and Jacksonville, Florida, and finally to Cary, Illinois. In every place she called home. Joy left an indelible mark as a woman of immense talent and intellect. A true "Life Master" in every sense, Joy was an expert bridge player and teacher, sharing her sharp mind and strategic passion with countless partners and students. Her professional life was equally distinguished by a successful career in real estate, where her warmth and determination helped many families find their own places to call home. Beyond her professional pursuits, Joy was a visionary artist and a gifted storyteller. She expressed her vibrant view of the world through her artwork and shared her wisdom and imagination in the three books she authored. A world traveler, she explored distant corners of the globe, yet she always remained anchored by the love of her family.
Joy's LEGACY OF LOVE ~ She is survived by her children, who were her greatest pride: Ted (Beth) Miller, Larry (Tina Milliron) Miller, Steve Miller (Kathy Boston), Greg (Diane) Miller, and Pam (John) Plyler. Her legacy lives on through her nine grandchildren: Jessie, Melissa (Shaun), Tera (Josh), Nathan (Heather), Amy, Kevin (Hannah), Emily (Andrew), Alex (Kayla), and Jim; and she was further blessed with sixteen great-grandchildren who brought her endless delight in her later years. She is also survived by her third husband Ray Estes and his beautiful family.
She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 48 years, Ted Miller who has been patiently waiting for the love of his life to join him; her parents, Millie and Jesse Pickel; her brother, Gene Pickel; her second husband Ron Schick and many dear relatives and friends who went before her.
