It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Louella Avery of Joliet, IL — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

What follows is written with love, by those who knew her best.

Louella spent her working life as ['Leaf Brand two years'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

There are losses that teach us the weight of a life.

Louella Avery was born January 2, 1940 in Grenada, Mississippi to Wille Allen and Louisiana Berry. She accepted Jesus Christ, a foundational member of Great Bible Way Apostle Temple from its inception on June 3, 1962. Louella Avery worked at Leaf Brand two years, later became a housewife and homemaker.

She is preceded in death by both parents; one son, Adam Avery; one grandson, Donta Evans; five sisters, and four brothers; and husband, Charles Avery.

Mother Louella Avery departed this life on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Illinois.

Louella is survived by her one loving daughter, Berninia D. Ward (David L. Ward) of Joliet, IL and one son, Charles L. Jackson of Minneapolis, MN; one grandson, Martin A. Jamison (Diamond S. Jamison); five grandsons, Martin A. Jamison Jr., Kayden Jamison, Major Jamison and Kendrick Jamison and Kevan Jackson; three granddaughters, Aubrey, Raquel, Serinity and two god daughters, Renee McCaskill and Mrs. Bobbie Millsap and her little brother, Rufus Millsap; best friends, Lula Sykes, and Mother Alberta Reed, Allene Harveny; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
