It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Mary Elizabeth Scofelia of Liberty, TX — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

Some stories deserve to be told slowly. This is one of them.

What is given freely returns in ways we cannot measure.

Mary Elizabeth Scofelia, a beloved soul whose life was a testament to love, faith, and family, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in Liberty, Texas. Born on March 4, 1952, in Vidor, Texas, Mary Elizabeth's journey through this world was marked by an abiding devotion to God, a deep love for her family, and a heart that warmly welcomed all who knew her.

Mary was a woman of profound faith, firmly rooted in the United Pentecostal Church where she found strength and guidance throughout her life. Her spiritual devotion was evident to all who crossed her path, as she lived her days in humble obedience to the word, continually inspiring those around her with her genuine kindness and unwavering belief.

Family was at the very core of Mary being. She treasured her son, Micah Scofelia, and his wife Veronica, cherishing the moments spent together. She was a proud grandmother to Alicia Scofelia and Dominic Scofelia, whose lives were forever enriched by her loving presence. Among those closest to her was her brother, Robert Haynes, and his wife Rhonda, with whom she shared many bonds of affection and memories. Mary's father, Robert Haynes and mother, Lillian Martin Haynes as well as her beloved husband, Michael Scofelia, have preceded her in death, resting now in eternal peace.

Mary's home was a sanctuary filled with warmth and creativity. She adored her fur babies, companions who brought her much joy and comfort in quiet moments. Her artistic spirit shone brightly through her love of painting-a craft where she expressed much of her soul's beauty. She also delighted in cooking, opening her door wide to family, friends, and especially her son's friends, all of whom found solace and joy in the meals she lovingly prepared. Her kitchen was a gathering place, a testament to the generous heart that welcomed others to share in good food and laughter.

Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate Mary's life and legacy on April 30, 2026, at Faith and Family Funeral Home in Batson, Texas beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Redkey officiating.

Mary Elizabeth Scofelia's life was a vivid tapestry woven from faith, familial love, artistic passion, and generous hospitality. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her and in the legacy of love she so richly leaves behind. She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and eternally cherished.
