It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Paul Joseph English of North Arlington, NJ — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

Below, the simplest tribute: the truth of a life as it was lived.

A parent's life is measured, in part, by the lives he shaped.

Paul Joseph English passed away on May 1, 2026. He was 79 years old. He was diagnosed with cancer in the brain in early November 2025. He battled the disease with the wonderful guidance and care of his PCP, Dr. Sylvia Coscia.

Paul was born on August 30, 1946 In Orange, NJ . He attended Good Counsel High School in Newark and graduated from Bloomfield College with a degree in Economics. He worked for Japan Airlines for 28 years and after that worked another 10 years with American Express Travel for the U.N.

Paul is predeceased by his Parents, Mary (nee Hunt) and Thomas English.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Betty, to whom he was married for over 50 years. He was father to 3 wonderful children, Jennifer (deceased), Michael and Brian (deceased). He was brother to Edward (married to Norah) and Thomas (married to Linda). He was uncle to Chris, Erin, Patrick, Mark, Len, Cheryl, Wes, Dianne, Doug, Kenny, Erin, Joey, John , Shawn and many great nephews and nieces.

Paul was a quiet, compassionate man. He was careful in his approach to just about anything. But above all he was a caring individual. He is now in heaven with his children, friends and family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and funeral services at the O'Boyle Funeral Home, 309 Broad St., Bloomfield, NJ. The Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 60 Byrd Ave Bloomfield, NJ. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery 340 Ridge Road North Arlington. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8pm.
