It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Thomas H. Batton Sr of Teaneck, NJ — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

Below, the simplest tribute: the truth of a life as it was lived.

Thomas held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Faith is the language some lives are written in. Thomas's was one.

Thomas Henry Batton Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by his loving family.

Thomas was a man of larger-than-life personality, known for his strength, generosity, and deep commitment to those around him. Whether he was coaching football, building a home with his own hands, or simply enjoying a bowl of linguini with white clam sauce, he brought passion, humor, and heart into everything he did.

A dedicated member of the Sparta community, Thomas gave tirelessly of himself over the years-especially to youth and high school football programs. He was more than a coach; he was a mentor and role model who shaped the lives of countless young athletes and left a lasting impact on many families. His presence and contributions will be remembered for generations.

Thomas faced numerous health challenges throughout his life with courage and determination. A true fighter, he battled until the very end, showing strength and resilience that inspired everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela; his loving children, Jaime and TJ; and his cherished grandchildren, Justin and Sofia. He also leaves behind his brother, Alan, and his three sisters, Barbara, Carol, and Liane, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
