After a life of love and quiet grace, Gladys Margaret Scrivner of Jefferson City, MO has passed.

Here is what we wish the world to know of Gladys.

Gladys spent her working life as ['hairstylist'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

It is in the silence afterward that we hear how loud a life was.

Gladys Scrivner, age 101, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Friday, May 1, 2026 at Jefferson City Manor, just 5 days shy of her 102nd birthday.

She was born May 6, 1924, in Cole County, Mo., the daughter of the late Paul and Laura (Jacobs) Hager.

On January 15, 1950, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Scrivner. He preceded her in death in July 2010. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage filled with love, adventure, and companionship.

Gladys was a graduate of Eugene High School and went on to pursue a career as a hairstylist. She worked in salons in both Columbia and Jefferson City before opening her own business, Palace Beauty Shop. Through her work, she built lasting relationships and became a trusted and familiar presence to many in the community. She was a platinum member of the National Hairdressers Association and was actively involved in several local organizations, including the Eagles, the Elks, the Zonta Club, and Meadow Lake Country Club.

A woman of faith, Gladys was a longtime member of Central United Church of Christ, now known as Central Church.

Gladys was known for her confident and spirited personality. She was assertive, sure of herself, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy life. She loved social outings, spending time with friends, and creating meaningful connections. She and Bob shared a love for travel and explored many destinations across the country together.

She also found great joy in her flowers and took pride in maintaining beautifully manicured flower beds, reflecting her care and attention to detail.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family members.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Waldo Hager and Norman Hager; two sisters, Lavenia Siebeneck (Robert) and Katherine Hager; and her beloved dog, Sash.

In accordance with her wishes, Gladys donated her body to scientific and medical research, a final act of generosity that reflects her desire to care for others.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Central Church, 118 W Ashley St, Jefferson City, MO 65101 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary.
