After a life of love and quiet grace, Latonia "Tony" Johnson Sorrells of Bastrop, TX has passed.

What we offer here is gratitude wrapped in remembrance.

Some doors close softly, and still leave the room changed.

Tony was gifted with a smile that could light up any room. This beautiful smile will no longer greet us with joy on his face, but it is now stamped on our hearts and in our memories. Tony Johnson Sorrells was born on October 15, 1966. Raised by his mother, Floris L. Sorrells, in Austin, Texas, Tony was enrolled in the Austin Independent School District and graduated from Crockett High School. While at Crockett High School, he was very studious in auto mechanics and woodshop. After high school, Tony enrolled at Austin Community College and earned a Certificate in Automotive Mechanics. Building on these achievements, Tony used this training to gain employment with Capital Metro Transit System, where he remained for thirty-eight years. He continued to advance his skills through employee development training throughout his career. This passion for automotive work was instilled in Tony at a very young age. He collected and assembled model cars with meticulous attention to detail, a quality often relied upon by his employer, colleagues, and friends.Tony’s spiritual journey began as a child at Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, Austin, Texas. As he grew older, his faith continued to play a significant role in his life. As an adult, Tony worshiped at Family Worship Center, Elgin, Texas. Later, Tony’s current worship home became Foundation Christian Ministries, Bastrop, Texas, where he proudly served.Tony was preceded in death by his daughter, Chanler C. Hagens, Kyle, Texas; his brother, Wallace L. Sorrells, Austin, Texas; his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Myriel Sorrells, Manchaca, Texas; and seven maternal uncles and six maternal aunts. While he will be greatly missed, Tony leaves behind to cherish and honor his memory, his wife, Diane Sorrells; his son, Cory M. Sorrells (Amanda); his granddaughters, Zoey, Aurora, and Brinkli; his mother, Floris L. Sorrells; his sister, Linda F. Sorrells; nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.Psalm 37: 23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.A visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Family Worship Center in Elgin, Texas. A Homegoing Celebration of his life will begin at 12:00 p.m. Tony will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop, Texas immediately following the service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests to make a donation in Tony's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
