After a life of love and quiet grace, L.P. Norment of Forrest City, AR has passed.

What follows is written with love, by those who knew him best.

L.P. spent his working life as ['Cello-Wrap'] and held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Some find their compass in faith. L.P. was among them.

Deacon L.P. Norment, age 75, of Forrest City, Arkansas, transitioned peacefully from this earthly life into the loving presence of the Lord on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Memphis, Tennessee. The Word of God declares in Philippians 3:20-21, "For our citizenship is in heaven; from which also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself." Truly, the homegoing of Deacon Norment reflects the life of a faithful servant who walked with humility, reverence, and unwavering devotion to God.

Born in Moro, Arkansas, he was the oldest son of the late L.P. Norment, Sr., and Letha Ann Butler-Norment. He was nurtured in a loving home that instilled in him strong values, a dedicated work ethic, and a deep respect for family. These early foundations shaped the manner in which he lived, loved, and served throughout his life.

On October 12, 1969, he was joined in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Missionary Dorothy Rogers-Norment, a union ordained by God and strengthened by love, prayer, and steadfast companionship. For fifty-six years, they walked together as partners, confidantes, and best friends, exemplifying the sanctity of marriage.

Deacon Norment was the proud father of eight children, each of whom brought him tremendous joy and purpose. To them, he was a steady protector, a gentle giant whose laughter filled the room, and a quiet yet firm disciplinarian who led with wisdom, strength, and love. A man of diligence, Deacon Norment believed in the honor of hard work. From an early age, he was employed with Pepsi-Cola. Over the years, he served as a lead at Sanyo, Inc., worked at Cello-Wrap, and later became a supervisor at Boar's Head Provisions. Until his retirement from Mid-South Health Systems, he exemplified integrity, consistency, and humility. His strong work ethic and dependable presence left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.

Deacon Norment was also a devoted figure in the community. He coached youth teams through Bryant Photography, leading the boys' team to five consecutive undefeated seasons. He later coached a girls' team, Economy Cars, guiding them to two undefeated seasons as well. In addition to coaching, he also played for Sanyo Manufacturing. He was a faithful supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, a passion he carried with him throughout his life.

At an early age, Deacon Norment gave his life to the Lord at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He later united with Days Temple Church of God in Christ, where he remained a devoted and faithful member under the leadership of Elder Curtis C.L. Rolfe. He loved the Church of God in Christ and faithfully supported the work of the ministry, especially honoring and uplifting his pastor and First Lady during church anniversaries. His life was a true reflection of holiness, faithfulness, and service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L.P. Norment, Sr., and Letha Ann Norment-Thomas; his sister, Shirley Johnson; and his brothers, Michael Dewyane Norment, Calvin Norment, and Ervin Norment.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-six years, Missionary Dorothy Jean Norment of Forrest City, Arkansas; his children: Timothy Norment (Jackie) of Memphis, Tennessee; Michael Norment (Deborah) of Cordova, Tennessee; Danny Norment of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Angela Norment of Forrest City, Arkansas; Tonya Norment Moore (Elderick) of Earle, Arkansas; Felix Norment (Darla) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; April Norment of Dallas, Texas; and Daffy Norment (Eileen) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He also leaves his siblings: Linda Kay Griffin and Donna Thomas of Forrest City, Arkansas; Willie B. (Marylin) of Memphis, Tennessee; Melvin Norment (Carylon) of North Little Rock, Arkansas; and Edward Norment (Venessa) of Forrest City, Arkansas. He was blessed with thirty-six grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren. He further leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, neighbors, and friends, along with bonus children, Curtis Davis, Miles J. Kimble, Clarice Handcock, and Monecia "Monday" Lyons, who will forever cherish his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and unwavering love.
