After a life of love and quiet grace, Lucile Carrie White of Talladega, AL has passed.

Below, the family shares some of what made her life meaningful.

Lucile held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Those who live by belief leave a different kind of mark.

Born on Friday, February 24, 1939, in Talladega, Alabama, to Joe and Jennie Chapman Duncan.

Lucile was a pillar in her church community, serving faithfully on the Usher Board and Missionary Board at Africa Missionary Baptist Church. Lucile was a graduate of R. R. Moton High School.

Lucile left her mark as a skilled presser at Palm Beach Corporation and also contributed her talents to Bemis Yarn Mill, The Presbyterian Home, and Lee's Laundry. Outside of her professional life, she found immense joy in cooking, entertaining, and was renowned for her "green thumb" in gardening and yard work.

Lucile was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose legacy lives on in the hearts of her loving family. She is survived by her cherished daughters, Rosaline White Smoot and Bernice (Harold Sr.) Foster of Douglasville, GA, and Vanessa (Nathaniel) Kelly and Rena (Willie Bernard) Merritt of Talladega, AL. Her sons, Robert Leon (Edwina) White and Dexter (Tammy) White of Sylacauga, AL, also carry forward her spirit and values. Her legacy blossoms through her grandchildren, Sabria Wynn, Deitrick (Tina) Fomby, Erica (Marvin) Simpson, Iris White, Tasha Smoot, Monzel Smoot, Quincy (Nagail) White, Antineekia (Irvin) McTaw, Santine (Latisha) White, Nicholas White, Dexter Babbs, and Morgan White; her 27 great-grandchildren; and four precious great-great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her dear sister, Josie Duncan of Albion, MI, and brothers, George (Mary) Duncan and Horace (Geraldine) Duncan, Sr. of Albion, MI. Her sisters-in-law, Winifred Duncan of Oberlin, LA, Mary Duncan of Talladega, AL, Janice McElrath of Camden, TN, and Mary Cole of Talladega, AL, will fondly remember her companionship.

Her legacy extends beyond her immediate family to include her bonus children, Betty Smith, Eleanor Monterro, Martha Boykin, Larry Simmons, Herman Simmons, and Franklin Simmons, as well as her special bonus granddaughter, Kem (Curtis) Embry. Her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends will cherish her memory forever. She was not just a grandmother to her own family but to the entire community, always ready to lend a helping hand and a warm heart.

Lucile Carrie White passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the age of 87. Lucile was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, E.V. White; her parents, Joe and Jennie Duncan; and her siblings, A.D. Duncan, Tommy Lee Duncan, Ulysses Duncan, Minnie Ree Simmons, Elizabeth Estelle, Josephine Headen, Earline Jackson, and Irene Hawkins.

Her spirit will remain a guiding light to those she leaves behind, and her memory will forever be cherished.
