Max Moore, 93, of Bridgeport, TX, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Max Maurice "Coach" Moore, 93, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Bridgeport, Texas.Funeral services will take place Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church in Paradise, Texas. Family burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma at 4:30 p.m. Visitation is set for Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Texas. Marc Moore will officiate.Pallbearers will include Pat Schmidt, Kyle Clifton, Lance Kerr, Mickey Hand, Doug Hill, Dale Barkley, Ritchard Murphy, and Brent House; honorary pallbearer, Roy Hartsell.Max was born on October 10, 1932, in Durant("DOO-rant"), Oklahoma to William Leasel Moore and Lois Fay Ratcliff Moore. He played football for Durant High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University and boxed independently. He married his high school sweetheart and best friend of nearly 62 years, Martha Jane Turner, on June 19, 1955, in Durant, Oklahoma. Max served 3 years, 8 months, and 24 days in the United States Air Force in Alaskan Territory and San Antonio, Texas.He dedicated his working years to serving young people as a coach and educator in Beeville,Sherman, and later in Bridgeport, Texas where he served as football coach, athletic director, and eventually assistant principal from 1972-1985. He loved the Bridgeport Bulls and was known to ask anyone he met if he "had you in school." Upon retiring, he and Martha owned and managed the Time Out Grocery Store in Paradise, Texas for many years, offering good food and conversation to anyone who stopped by. Following the footsteps of his father, he laid down his life for his neighbor as a volunteer firefighter for his entire adult life. He instituted the Lake Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department in 1978 where he served as Fire Chief from 1978-1998 and subsequently served as chaplain for the department the remainder of his days. He also served the public as the Wise County Emergency Management Coordinator from 1993-2002. When they weren't serving family or others, Max and Martha enjoyed travelling the US in their motor home with beloved friends and grandchildren.Max loved his church, Grace Fellowship, and cherished his time in God's Word until his eyesight no longer allowed.He was a devoted follower of Christ, a wonderful husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a generous servant of anyone in need. Much of his last years were spent at home where he hailed all visitors with a hearty "Come on in, whoever you are!" and offered them a "root beer, Dr. Pepper." He maintained his cheerful spirit and witty sense of humor all the way to the end. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.Max is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha; son, Matt; brother, Miles Moore; and sister, Marcia Fritz.He is survived by his brothers, Mell, Michael, and Marion Moore; son, Marc Moore and wife, Carolyn; grandchildren Morgan McClanahan and husband,Terry; and Maggie Sears and husband Travis; great-grandchildren Trevor and Turner South, Treysonn McClanahan, and Landy and Larkin Sears.In honor of Max's love and daily prayers for "all the children and their mamas and daddies," memorial donations can be made to the children's ministry of Grace Fellowship Church.
