After a life of love and quiet grace, Norman Ray Hale of Saint Augustine, FL has passed.
Here is the shape of a life remembered with love.
Norman held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
Those who live by belief leave a different kind of mark.
Norman R. Hale, age 82, of Saint Augustine, Florida, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 30, 2026. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, the last of 11 children born to the late Anna Elizabeth Smith, and Fredrick Hale. Norman was a veteran of the Florida National Guard and spent over 40 years in law enforcement in South Florida. He served with the Miami Police Department from 1968 to 1991, rising from patrolman in the uniformed services to Detective Sergeant in the Special Investigations Section.
After retiring from the Miami Police Department, he joined the Miami-Dade State Attorney's
Office where he was employed as an investigator until 2009. He specialized in investigating all forms of public corruption and money laundering.
After over 20 years, he met back up with his wife, Kathleen Vivian, at a Miami Police Reunion in 2002 and after briefly dating, they were married on Valentine's Day, 2003 in Hendersonville NC. The day of his retirement from the State Attorney's Office in January of 2009, he and Kathleen moved and relocated to Saint Augustine, Florida. They joined Anastasia Church in March of that year. He served several years as a Deacon, and then as a senior deacon, as well as facilitating the Pathfinder's life Group with Kathleen. He enjoyed fishing, biking, walking on the beach and photography.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 10 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kathleen Vivian Hale of Saint Augustine, Florida; Son Kevin Hale of Pembroke Pines, Florida; daughter Lisa Calcagino (James) of Lehigh Acres, Florida; grandson Rylan J. Calcagino of Lehigh Acres and numerous Nephews and Nieces.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00am on June 16, 2026, at Anastasia Baptist Church
with Dr. Walter West officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the
Anastasia Baptist Church Building Fund, 1650 AlA South, Saint Augustine, Fl 32080.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
