After a life of love and quiet grace, Pauline N. Theobald of Honesdale, PA has passed.

What you read below is one part of a life lived with quiet purpose.

Pauline spent her working life as ['the Wayne County Fair for many years'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

The work of a parent is rarely finished — it lives on in the children she loved.

Pauline N. Theobald, 90, beloved wife of John "Jack" Theobald, entered into heaven on April 23, 2026. She and Jack shared a beautiful life together for over 67 years, with over 65 of those years together in Swamp Brook.

Born on October 5, 1935 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of Ferdinand and Agnes Nonnenmacher. She was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School and the proud valedictorian of her graduating class.

Her story with Jack began at a dance at Romich's in the '50s and blossomed into marriage and raising their family together. A proud "Bell Telephone girl", Pauline then turned to raising their children with unending love and gentle guidance. She later worked in cafeterias at Wayne Highlands schools. She was an expert seamstress, loved quilting and working at flea markets with her church friends and worked at the Wayne County Fair for many years. She would often be seen gardening, and her piano music wafted through the neighborhood regularly. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, and faithful to her core.

In addition to her husband, Jack, Pauline is survived by her children, Timothy (Karin Fils-Aime) Theobald, Mary (Timothy) McNichols, Thomas (Barbara) Theobald and Charles (Amy) Theobald, her grandchildren, Kelly and Julie Theobald, Ryan McElroy, Matthew and Sara McNichols, Stacey (Colin) Hausman, Becky (Corey) Rutledge and Andrew (Kimberly) Theobald, her step-grandchildren, Wendy (Eric) Kramer, Tina (John Young) Bayly, and Jessica (Zach Jones) Schwab. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Riley, Leah, Levi, Avery, Emmer, Grayson and Leanne and step-great-grandchildren, Chloe, Rachael, Rosalyn, Shane, Jackson, Killian and Leo. Her family was her all. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Helene (Frank) Niekrewicz, sisters-in-law, Kathy Nonnenmacher and Jean Theobald, daughter-in-law, Norene Theobald and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Marie Coligan, Rita (Fred) Young, and Teresa Nonnenmacher, brothers Clarence (Elsie), Eugene (Norma), Bernard (Joyce), and John Nonnenmacher and Jack's parents, Edward and Florence Theobald, and sisters, Marion (Merlin) Mang and Helen (Don) McCann.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 29 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale, at 10 a.m. with burial immediately following at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.
